Silver regained Rs 60,000 per kg level with prices soaring by 3.23 per cent to Rs 60,425 per kg in futures trade today as speculators indulged in creating huge positions amid a firming trend in the global market. Besides, sliding rupee which plunged to hit an all-time low of Rs 68.75 also influenced white metal prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in December shot up by Rs 1,892, or 3.23 per cent, to Rs 60,425 per kg in business turnover of 671 lots. Similarly, the white metal for delivery in September traded higher by Rs 1,932, or 3.37 per cent, to Rs 59,222 per kg in 3,806 lots.

Silver futures prices today spurted by 1.57 per cent to Rs 54,630 per kg as speculators created positions even as metal declined in Asian trade. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in September traded higher by Rs 843, or 1.57 per cent, to Rs 54,630 per kg in business turnover of 905 lots.

On the similar lines, the white metal for delivery in far-month December traded Rs 829, or 1.51 per cent, higher at Rs 55,660 per kg in a turnover of 91 lots. In the international market, silver, however, declined 1 per cent to USD 24.07 an ounce after climbing to USD 24.41 yesterday, the highest since May.

Amid a firming trend in the global market, gold prices rose 0.20 per cent to Rs 31,820 per 10 gram in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions. Besides, a firming trend at the domestic spot markets on the back of stockists buying ahead of festive season, also supported the rise in gold futures prices here. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, metal for delivery in October gained Rs 66, or 0.20 per cent, to trade at Rs 31,820 per 10 gm in a turnover of 655 lots.

On similar lines, the metal for delivery in far-month December gained Rs 65, or 0.21 per cent, to Rs 31,756 per 10 gram in a business volume of 41 lots. Silver prices jumped Rs 379, or 0.71 per cent, to Rs 53,850 per kg in futures trading today as speculators created positions largely in tandem with a firming overseas trend. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in September traded Rs 379, or 0.71 per cent higher at Rs 53,850 per kg in business turnover of 1,195 lots. Likewise, the white metal for delivery in December traded higher by Rs 389, or 0.71 per cent, to Rs 54,850 per kg in 105 lots.

Gold futures prices today fell by 0.61 per cent to Rs 31,200 per 10 gram as speculators offloaded their positions, taking cues from the global market.Besides, profit-booking by speculators also put pressure on gold futures. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold prices for delivery in December fell by Rs 193, or 0.61 per cent, to Rs 31,200 per 10 grams in business turnover of 16 lots. Similarly, metal prices for delivery in October declined by Rs 173, or 0.55 per cent, to Rs 31,271 per 10 gram in 393 lots.

Market analysts said the fall in gold futures was mostly attributed to a weak trend overseas as investors weighed the minutes of the US Federal Reserve's last meeting, which reinforced expectations that stimulus will be tapered amid strengthening dollar, reducing appeal for the precious metal as an alternative investment. Globally, gold prices fell 0.8 per cent to trade at $1,355.30 an ounce in Singapore.
